Day 3 takes you from Suanbo over Ihwaryeong Pass, through Mungyeong and Sangju, and on to Gumi Weir. Save some energy for the early climbs, then keep an eye on the remaining distance—including the ride to your accommodation after the final checkpoint.

1. Have breakfast in Suanbo before setting off

Plan to eat around the Suanbo Hot Springs Certification Center before you start. Have breakfast before tackling Ihwaryeong, and carry water and a snack for the climb. If you want an early start, check breakfast opening times the evening before.

Your day may continue well beyond Gumi Weir. When choosing a departure time, allow for meals, checkpoint stamps, photo stops and rest breaks as well as the riding itself.

2. Take your time climbing Ihwaryeong

The GPX puts Ihwaryeong Rest Area about 17.7 km from Suanbo. That may look short on paper, but climbing takes more time and effort than riding on level ground. Use an easy gear, settle into a comfortable rhythm, and stop somewhere safe if you need a break.

The Sojoryeong cycle-route sign and the Ihwaryeong monument make memorable photo stops. Before descending, check your brakes and make sure your luggage is secure. Slow down before bends on the way down.

After descending from Ihwaryeong, stop in Mungyeong-eup before Buljeong Station, or continue farther to Jeomchon if you prefer a later lunch. Each link below opens one specific restaurant, rather than a nearby search.

4. Continue through Mungyeong and Sangju to Nakdan Weir

Mungyeong Buljeong Station is about 40.1 km from the start, and Sangju Sangpung Bridge is about 71.5 km. After the bridge, the GPX continues via Sangju Weir to Nakdan Weir. Keep Sangju Weir on your checkpoint list when checking your cycling passport and next stop.

Getting over the pass is a milestone, but there is still plenty of riding ahead. Break the remaining distance into manageable sections, and top up your water and snacks when you stop.

5. Choose between dinner near Nakdan Weir and dinner in Gumi

By Nakdan Weir, you will have covered about 100.5 km. Gumi Weir is still another 17.9 km away. If you are hungry or daylight is fading, consider a meal and a rest around Nakdan Weir. The linked map shows places such as Nakdonggang Hanwoo Village (낙동강한우촌) and Danmil Bapjip (단밀밥집).

Find dinner near Nakdan Weir

If a later dinner suits you, continue past Gumi Weir and eat near your accommodation in Gongdan-dong. The area offers options such as rice soups, noodle dishes and Chinese food. This restaurant area is farther into Gumi, rather than immediately beside the weir, so factor in the additional ride and remaining daylight.

The GPX ends at Gumi Weir. Save a separate route to your accommodation, and check restaurant closing times if you expect a late arrival.

For more places to stay, search for ‘구미 공단동 숙박’ on Naver Map or KakaoMap.

After the ride

  1. Save the cycling route from the checkpoint to your accommodation before setting off.
  2. Confirm bicycle storage, then check in and find dinner and supplies nearby.
  3. Charge your lights and phone, and save the route back to the cycleway for the morning.

Ask before booking

“I am travelling with a loaded bicycle. Can I bring it into the room or store it securely indoors? Is there an elevator, and can I check in at my expected arrival time?” Bicycle storage has not been confirmed at these properties. Choose an overnight stay rather than a short daytime booking, and check the final rate and cancellation terms for your date.
